Blake Writes A Poem #27

They were not like us when they came.

They weren’t bipedal,

And they didn’t care that we were.

They didn’t speak English

     Or Chinese

          Or Russian,

               And they didn’t try to.

They did not breathe our oxygen,

Though they seemed somewhat interested in our salts.

They did not convert to our economic system:

     They neither bartered nor bought.

They had no religious affiliations

though several new religions were created around them.

They did not open the boundless vistas of space for us to explore like we thought they would.

     They did not hurt us.

     They did not help us.

They were not like us when they came,

     And then one day

          They were gone.
